Views and Current Events Part 3

Last week we looked at the two areas surrounding Love and Judgment.  As I continue looking at Views and Current Events, be reminded that it is for the simple purpose of keeping our eyes open as we seek wisdom and not simply walk in blind faith. A solid understanding of Scripture, by reading it for yourself, will help round out all of these view and others. As we better understand the world we will pray more effectively.  Then we can better bind the enemy and loose our Heavenly Father’s will here in our world.

As individuals, it is important to know the prevailing views and ways so that you can understand your own assets and limitations as well as your opponent.  This level of understanding will bring victory to you.

Having faith (trust) and knowing God, Holy Spirit, and scripture are the only ways to really navigate the days in which we live.  As the Church and the world around it is shaken and taken through assessing times, it is critical that the foundations on which we stand remain secure and understood by all.

Views That Move Us and that the Enemy Twists   (See Part 1 and Part 2)

Knowing God, His word, ourselves, and the enemy are key to moving into victory.  We then walk in wisdom knowing truth from lie. We win the war but the battle goes on for now until we are overcomers because we are ‘more than conquerors through Christ Jesus’.  Let us continue our look at common view of our times.

3. ‘The Church has failed in its mission.’

It can surely be said that, as a whole, mankind has made mistakes throughout history but overall a bright and steady light has always existed within the Christian Church founded by the death, burial, and resurrection of the prophesied Messiah Jesus Christ and empowered by Holy Spirit at Pentecost.  This light remains not because of imperfect man but because of a Perfect Messiah.  This light remains because Christ is the Light of the world and He is the light of mankind.  To silence the light would be to silence Jesus Christ Himself.  Satan could not do that and mankind will fail in their attempt as well.

The Church (His Bride, Body of Christ) is a spiritual entity made up of imperfect humans (Christians) who are learning to follow Jesus Christ as Lord and surrender to Holy Spirit as the teacher.  Christians get it right when they flow with Holy Spirit.  Apart from Him, we have nothing and can do nothing of any good.  I can surely see that the Bride of Christ is making herself ready as the Church (made up of Christians and congregations from all walks of life) unites in His love and love for each other.  Religion is losing and Christianity is maturing while coming to the forefront.

It may sound like semantics but let us be clear.  The Church will always be victorious because God promised it and He has always had a righteous remnant.  The Church is comprised of humble and repentant Christians who look to subdue self while reflecting Christ.  This is a work in progress here on earth.  Our congregations are also comprised of every human characteristic since they are also filled with broken people, some who have not been saved yet, some who have received bad (unscriptural teaching), and some who have more to learn or overcome than others.  As long as there is a heart that seeks God and willingness to be repentant and do God’s will, there is hope for the lost and the Christian alike.

It is true that Christians must remain humble and it could be said that the state of affairs in the world are the direct result of the lack of proper action from Christians who are intended to be a positive impact and influence wherever they are.  But be careful, because I would expect that assessment to only come from Christ Himself or those who have heard His critique of His Bride personally and have themselves strived fervently to live the life as Christ did.

It could be said that the harshest criticism of the Church, of Christians, of congregations around the world increases as a person stands farther away from the core of the congregation.  A person’s criticism increases in direct proportion to their own level of connectedness to Christians around them.  Some criticize from their own brokenness and unresolved wounds received from past experiences with other broken people.  They reject the whole because of the few.  Sadly, this is part of our human nature.

Some of the most wonderful people on earth are at the heart of Christian life; loving, serving, helping, shining light, and caring for people as Christ would have them.  The Church is moving ever upward towards the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

4. ‘The church, like the world, is self-correcting and no judgement is necessary.’

This view stands on the finished work of Christ for believers and the patience and longsuffering of God who is not willing that any should perish but that all would come to repentance.   God it longsuffering and the epitome of patience but He is also just and righteous.

God is good and His measure is balanced.  He measures mercy and truth in a just and right manner.  In speaking of God, Psalm 89:14 tells us the following:

'Righteousness and justice are the foundation of Your throne; mercy and truth go before Your face.'

Speaking of the state of mankind apart from Christ’s work and the Holy Spirit power, Romans 3:10-11 tells us of mankind and sums it up with verse 18,

10 As it is written:  “There is none righteous, no, not one; 11 There is none who understands; There is none who seeks after God.

18 “There is no fear of God before their eyes.”

Romans 9:27-28 goes on to speak of the judgement after death but for Christians Christ brings salvation.

27 And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment, 28 so Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many. To those who eagerly wait for Him He will appear a second time, apart from sin, for salvation.

And Romans 10:3-4 tells us to submit to the righteousness of God rather than our own.

‘3 For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and seeking to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted to the righteousness of God.  4 For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes.’

It is true that corrections can be made and should be made when error is realized.  However, if these corrections are being made to garner a sense of right standing or to measure up, they will always fail.

It is a very dangerous concept to rely on self-correcting measures to gain God’s favor as scripture tells us that no one is righteous or perfect in God’s sight apart from Christ and to rely on steady corrections is a works-based framework and not built on the finished work of Christ.

A Closing

One thing that scripture is clear about is that God is not confused about the definition of Sin.  Scripture reveals that all mankind will face Christ once they die.  Some to eternal life and some to eternal punishment (see Matt. 25:46; John 3:36; John 5:24.  Jesus Christ has made a way and when truth is presented we simply have the choice to accept or deny it.

But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.’ (Heb. 11:6)

People around us who have not bowed their knee to salvation through Jesus Christ will suffer a horrible penalty.  Nations too will be corrected as they digress into great error.  Leviticus 18:20-25 brings it clear what will happen as nations slip away into darkness moving through devaluing marriage with adultery and fornication, sacrificing children to convenience, homosexuality, and ultimately bestiality – then a purging of the land.

Christians must align their focus to God’s ways and continue to model a service towards God.  We cannot ask the world to worship and serve the purposes of God without our showing them what it looks like.  Mankind in its entirety has slipped far away from the standards of righteousness that God’s Word defines.  Christians and non-Christians alike must humble themselves and repent for this.  Mankind was given a mandate in the beginning and all mankind will be held accountable for it.  We were created to have fellowship with God while following His ways.  We sinned.  We must repent for our own ways, for ‘doing church’ or ‘doing life’ without God which is nothing more than wickedness as defined in 2 Chron. 7:14.

For those who know Jesus Christ and who have surrendered to His will, the future is bright.  To those who have not surrendered, they must be given a chance to hear the Truth of God’s heart towards them.  That must come from the Church.

That is my view of Current Events.  What is yours?
