To Love Eternals

Eternals     Would you like to have more time than you ever thought you would have? More time to get things done?  More time to meet with people and to enjoy life?  Then, I want to share with you some very liberating things that could help you on your journey.

We will complete this series on love and there will be a refresher at the end.   In order to love God’s way you must have a value and love for the eternals, those things beyond our realm – you must understand some things about Time and Space.

Eternity as scripture declares is outside the realm and reach of Time and Space.  Watch a video sometime of the size of our universe as it relates to our planet and you will start to get an appreciation for the vastness of just some of God’s creation.  Eternity is where the godhead Trinity dwells.  As a Christian, eternity is our final place to live according to the promises of God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit witness within.   I will start out with scripture and then scientific theory.

In the Revelation of Jesus Christ, Our Lord said:

"I am the Alpha and the Omega," says the Lord God, "who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty."  (Rev. 1:8)

And again in Rev. 22:12-13

Behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to render to every man according to what he has done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end.

The Psalmist wrote of everlasting eternals in Psalms 90:2

Before the mountains were born or You gave birth to the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, You are God.

And also Psalms 90:4

For a thousand years in Your sight are like yesterday when it passes by, Or as a watch in the night.

Peter undoubtedly had this Psalm in mind when he wrote, ‘But do not let this one fact escape your notice, beloved, that with the Lord one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years like one day.’  (2 Peter 3:8) and God said in Isaiah 41:4,

"Who has performed and accomplished it, Calling forth the generations from the beginning?   'I, the LORD, with the first, and with the last I am He.'"

Science has been seen as the great adversary to faith and to religious thought.  I believe the opposite because though scientists can interpret things adversely, they will ultimately have to admit (here or there) that God is real and that according to Romans 1: 20 – all creation reveals the invisible attributes, power, and divine nature of God.  Jesus Himself came and said, “if you have seen Me, you have seen the Father” because he came from God.

Looking at two theories on time, the way science sees it, you are presented with what is called ‘A-Series’ and ‘B-Series’.

A-Series time theory states that there are three parts of time:  Past, Present, and Future.

A-Series Time Theory

Most people give way too much attention to the past, the present, and the future based on their level of confidence, security, struggle or concerns.   Much energy is spent in worrying, caring for, fixing, and controlling all areas of perceived time.   Equal measure of time is allotted for each and much is given to the present as we work to control our surroundings in the ‘here and now’ only to find that much of the cares of today are simply forgotten a week from now.   We struggle to achieve what ends up being a false sense of security based on our perceived success at controlling the appearance of stability of the present.

A person stands in the present attempting to control it while worrying about the future and struggling with the past

Paul the apostle understood something about time when he wrote:

But to me it is a very small thing that I may be examined by you, or by any human court; in fact, I do not even examine myself.   For I am conscious of nothing against myself, yet I am not by this acquitted; but the one who examines me is the Lord.’  (1 Cor. 4:3-4)

Paul also understood that it is not always clearly possible to define our success and failures in a matter.  I am not saying that right and wrong are relative or that the end justifies the means but while doing good what we could consider a failure may have actually led to someone’s salvation or breakthrough.   Paul knew that a day would come when his results would be assessed but He also knew that God was on the outside of time looking in and until that day he pressed forward, with faith in God, to complete the good work.  (Eccl. 12:14, Matt 12:36-37, Rom 2:6

All of this leads me to the B-Series.

Series B time theory states that there are only two parts of time: That which ‘comes before’ and that which ‘comes after’ or ‘something coming and something going’ at any given time.

B-Series Time Theory

This is not to say that the present is irrelevant or unimportant.   On the contrary, as good stewards of life we are always to be mindful of good LIVING which is the essence of the Present but we must also realize that whereas A-Series is like standing in a pond with a spring-fed tap at one end (future) and a drain at the other end (past), B-series thinking is like standing in the middle of a river (the future leading to the past) while we are ever vigilant to make correction and adjustment to make the best use of the activities happening around us.

Sometimes the river rages and sometimes it is a gentle passing stream but no matter what we face or feel we must always be ready for footing and balance adjustments to make the best use of where we stand.   We must stand for something and we must be firmly planted – these speak to the values that I shared on last week.  Take a good look at Eph. 6:10-18 for more on this ‘standing’.   We will sometimes be knocked down but though the righteous fall seven times, they get back up.

No matter how you see Time, how you respond and position yourself in the present will put you in a place of strength and stability.  A strength that all around you can learn and grow from.

So if you want more time than you ever thought you would have, more time to get things done and more time to meet with people and to enjoy life then I advise you to be a good steward of Time.  Do what God has asked you to do, nothing more and nothing less.   Trust God with your future, live and enjoy the present, and learn from the past – do not ignore it – grow from your past.   Do not be swayed easily, stand in your convictions. Trust God.  When you love as God loves you will see people as more important than tasks and obedience as better than sacrifice.  He Always Loves You!

God is outside of Space as well as Time.  He is the Creator of All Things.   He is not hindered by any limits to reach you in the nick of time.  There is no place He cannot find you; no place to get stuck that He cannot reach you.  Space, our universe, is in the palm of God’s hand and He created you with a plan in mind.  Love Him, Love Others, Love Life – Live.   And ‘Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage’.  (Gal. 5:1)

As I conclude, let me refresh what we have covered over the past few weeks on the topic of Love as it is important to focus on the meaning of Love from time to time.   In doing so, will help keep things in focus.  To recap, we must realize that ‘God is Love’ – simple but true.  To think of God as being primarily any other emotion would be incorrect, destructive, and set us personally on unstable ground.  A religious attitude lives best when love is forgotten or overlooked or seen as second to anything else.  This is not a squishy love; this is a freeing love, a strengthening love, a provoking, releasing and empowering yet accountable love.

Using the acronym we’ve shared – to know God as Love is to Love Life, Others, Values, and the Eternals.

Love covers a multitude of sin as we saw in another acronym with OTHERS – Loving Other Heals Every Remembered (or recorded) Sin.   Note that I said that love heals sin.   Only the Blood of Jesus Christ can remove sin from a person’s life but a loving heart, a loving person, will cover a friend as one defends and protects…love heals a wrong and allows healing to take place.  Love always protects the right of return.

When you get Love Right you will start to get Life Right!  However, to Love Right is the Hardest thing you will do because You must fade away.  You must realize and remember that people are different, people are broken, and people want to be loved.
